Western Catalpa (Also sometimes referred to as "the helicopter tree" because of its notable bean pods  we alll threw around the yard as children) is a large tree that grows fairly quickly to an upright, coarse and distinct "umbrella like" form that provides interesting winter character. Its massive leaves (6-12 inches long, 3-8 inches wide) are bright green in summer, turning yellow-green to brown but often falling before turning. It showy, large white flowers appear in May to June are short lived followed by its' well remembered seed pods. 8-12 inches long that persist into fall and winter. It tolerates different soil types  and drought well  and has few insect and disease problems. Even though it has a bit of a tropical appearance this tree is well adaptable and is a proven performer throughout Colorado. An excellent centerpiece tree for any lawn!Max Elevation: 7000 ft
