Anthony Waterer Spirea
Spirea x bumalda 'Anthony Waterer'
The Spirea has flat-topped heads of rosy-pink flowers that cover the this shrub in summer. The flowers offer a striking contrast against the bright green foliage. The foliage emerge a wine-red to maroon, then mature into a dark green.
It is best suited to full sun conditions, especially to bring out its color. It is not particular about soil type but, like most shrubs, grows faster and blooms more profusely in richer soil.
This small plant adds a new dimension and color when planted in the foreground of shrub borders. Trim back the blooms after they are spent and it will re-bloom.
