Three Leaf Sumac
Rhus trilobata
A very hardy, multiple-stemmed, native shrub. Sumac has three-lobed emerald green leaves that turn magnificent shades of yellow, orange and red in the fall. Little yellow flowers appear in the spring before the leaves. Arching branches form a dense, spreading shrub. Spikes of edible red fruit develop in late summer. Berries can be used to make a lemonade-like drink. This drought tolerant shrub makes for great privacy screens, windscreens, and its strong root system makes it geat for erosion control. Other names this shrub goes by are Skunkbush and Squawbush
